WSS Dorset Branch members and ~Ships~Dorset~ supporters living locally are naturally drawn to the high levels of shipping traffic and wide range of vessels accessing Southampton, Fawley and Portsmouth via the shipping channels of the Solent and Southampton Water. This opportunity to see and photograph cruise ships, ferries, container vessels, tankers, bulk carriers, naval ships, coastal shipping, dredgers and tugs is a great attraction to ship enthusiasts.

This opportunity is complemented by a number of organisations that organise ship viewing cruises around the harbours, anchorages and shipping lanes of the Solent. 2022 looks like a busy year of ship spotting Solent cruises. Some of the organisers are kind enough to invite WSS Dorset members at standard cruise cost. Others require membership of their organisation before entitling passengers to the "members" ticket cost.
